For Funeral Directors, this has long been the number one item on the wish list. Many Prepaid Funeral Fund investment vehicles have consistently paid poor returns over time, most not even keeping up with inflation. Many Funeral Directors find, when a contract transitions to “at need“, that there is considerably less value to be claimed, than the current day cost of the required funeral.

Australian Funeral Fund Management and the Prepaid Funeral Fund Trust aim to address this issue. Wholely owned by the Funeral Directors’ Association of NSW Limited, AFFM provides an investment option that is quite different from some others available in the market.

Our philosophy is grounded in understanding that the Client has chosen to purchase a Prepaid Funeral Contract with a Funeral Director. The Funeral Director has agreed to supply the specified Funeral when required and for no further cost. To protect the consumer’s interests, the monies paid to purchase the Contract MUST be invested in a Fund registered and regulated under the NSW Funeral Funds Act and regulations, and only being paid to the Funeral Director on proof of supply of the contracted funeral.

We believe the Funeral Director is entitled to make a decision, based on likely returns of the Fund chosen, and have the monies invested accordingly.

Funerals are not a subject that everybody feels comfortable discussing. In fact, many people dismiss the subject with an offhand remark such as "when the time comes, just get rid of me". Strangely enough, very few people seem to feel the same way about making a Will. Most people who make a Will feel satisfied that their wishes have been recorded and will be respected.

Prearranging and prepaying for your own funeral or for the funeral of a loved one can relieve family and friends of a considerable amount of the stress that is natural when dealing with any death. It can also ensure that the wishes of the person who has died will be respected and help resolve any differences of opinion between family members if they occur.
